論文を書く【Writing a thesis/paper】

一年も終わりに近づいてきました。私たちのチームでも卒業を控えて一生懸命みなさん論文を書いています。英語で論文を書く、ということが私たちの一つの大きなミッションです。前にも書きましたが、研究は世の中に伝えて初めて研究だと私は思っています。そして、世の中というのは世界です。だから英語なのです。 でも、初めてやった研究や実験にはどうしても穴があったり、納得できない部分があるものです。それでも書かなければいけないということになってくると、なかなか難しく感じるようです。私が思うのは、研究というのは永遠に続けなければいけないので、実験の穴や納得できない部分は、将来にとっておくのが一番だと思います。そうやって科学は前に進んでいくのではないでしょうか。

今年度はチームが大きく入れ替わる予定です。でも、出ていくメンバーが夢を持って前に進んでいくのを見守るのはとても嬉しい気持ちです。ある意味、私はもう夢をかなえてしまった人かもしれませんから、まだまだこれから、という若い人をどう育てるか、いつも考えています。

This year is almost ending. Many of the team are working hard, writing their graduate theses/papers. One of our great missions is to write it in English. I have stated this before but a research needs to be reported towards the world. This is why we have to write about our research.

At the same time, I understand that in a research done by him/her for the first time, there are always small mistakes and regrets which he/she feels uncertain about. Then, he/she struggles during the writing stage. However, in my opinion, we have to continue our research anyway so we can leave these things for future. This is how science is moving forward.

In the next year, many of our team will be leaving here. It is so nice to see them leaving here with a lot of hopes for future ahead. To be honest, a part of my dream has already came through, so I am always thinking about how to look after younger ones so they can have good dreams for their future.
