雨竜演習林【Experimental forests at Uryu】

北海道大学にはたくさんの「演習林」という場所があります。この場所は、森林について学べる、自然の博物館のような場所なのですが、ただものを展示しているだけではなくて、いろいろな実験が行われています。訳あって、そんな場所へ今回行ってきました。今度、たくさんの外国人を集めたワークショップをここで計画しているからです。私はお手伝いをしているだけなのですが、たくさんの人が来るのでなかなか物事が進まず、ハラハラしています。 今月頭に行ったのに、まだ雪がたくさん残っていて、歩くのも大変なくらいでした。北海道の自然は手ごわいですね。雨竜演習林は、東京２３区くらいの大きさがあるということで、また時間を見つけて、そしてテーマを見つけて探検したいですね。

Hokkaido University has many experimental forests. They are just like natural museums but not only that many scientists conduct many different experiments here. I have been there to check the site for upcoming workshop. I am just helping the organizing group but we are doing our best preparing for it.

I have been there at the beginning of this month but there were plenty of snow left on the ground. This experimental forest area is very huge so I would love to come back here when I have some more time and find theme to conduct some research here.
