タイの留学生たち【Short-term visiting students from Thai】

タイは私の好きな国の一つなんですが、タイのカセサートという大学と北大農学部には連携協定があって、さまざまな交流が行われています。私たちは、その交流のお手伝いをちょっとだけしていて、研究室に短期で来ているタイの学生を招待して、研究室の様子を見てもらったり、ちょっとした模擬授業をやったりしています。もう帰ってしまうということで、お別れ会やセミナーが開催されました。タイの子たちは本当にいい子で、礼儀正しくて、日本人の学生ともすぐに打ち解けて仲良くなってくれました。ありがとう。また来てね。と心から思います。 私たちは大したことをしていないのですが、北海道大学の農場の先生があちこちへ彼らを連れて行って、いろんな農法や農機具について授業をしていたようです。おもてなしの精神は日本の精神、と言いますが、おもてなす時間が無い、と簡単に言ってしまう先生も多い中、こんな先生で居たいな、と思える先生です。尊敬します。

というわけで、大したことをしていないのに、北海道大学の農場での本気ジンギスカンです。そしてセミナーでの一コマ。私の研究室での思い出も、タイの子たちはきちんとスライドにしてくれました。

Thai is one of my favourite countries and our University and Kasetsart University (Thai) have a close relationship. Our team is helping this relationship by hosting short-term visiting Thai students in our laboratory for a day. The visiting students were going back to their countries soon thus we had a farewell party and a seminar. They are very good students and are very polite. They made friends with Japanese students quickly and I sincerely thank them for visiting us and hope to see them again. We did not actually do much but a professor based at the University farm took them many different places to let them learn Hokkaido farming. He showed such a spirit of hospitality or "Omotenashi" in Japanese and I really respect him, seeing many other staffs here simply say they are too busy to show "Omotenashi" spirit.

Well, we were invited to some serious BBQ at the farm and Thai students did very well at their final seminar, showing a lot of pictures, including ones taken within our laboratory. Wonderful experience.
