日仏エコロジー農業討論会【Japan-France Agroecology Debate】

posted Dec 19, 2014, 4:19 PM by Yoshitaka Uchida Hokudai

Our University organized an event, a debate between French and Japanese panelists on “Agroecology”. This event has been organized every year, for a few years and I participated in the event as a panelist last year. My role for this year was the debate facilitator.
There were 4 Japanese and 2 French panelists and I worked hard to make sure everyone were comfortable and could freely say their opinions. Also, I had to make sure the debate goes in time.
It was not that easy because first of all, the term “Agroecology” is not that familiar to Japanese panelists. I had to make sure we were talking based on the same subject. Also, panelists consisted of farmers, journalists, scientists and so on and the listeners were normal people and students. Thus, I did my best not to use scientific terms and to explain unfamiliar words for the listeners.
I was told that the debate will be uploaded on the web sooner or later so I will introduce that again. I would like to thank all the participants and it was great since more than 150 people attended the event.
