Good thing about being a scientist is that I can make friends all over the world. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine, Dr Osanai, a researcher based in Australia, visited our laboratory. She supposed to be having a holiday in Japan but I pushed her to do a short seminar for me and my students to make this visit official. I appreciated that so much and she talked about the effect of changing atmospheric concentration of CO2 on agriculture. Human activities are believed to be causing the increase in the atmospheric CO2 level. The increased CO2 may promote plant growth, consequently changing our agricultural activities. Dr Osanai talked based on these things particularly focusing on soils.
Also, I asked her to give some advices for students from Hokkaido University, in terms of studying/researching in overseas. I received very good feedbacks from students on this topic.
We made some hotpots after the seminar to warm ourselves up after the seminar. Good efforts done by my students and I hope to have similar activities in near future.
