ニュージーランド・サマーキャンプ【New Zealand Summer Camp】

もう３月！ 時が経つのが早すぎです。いろいろ前後すると思いますが今年もブログを更新し続けられるようにしなければ。２月はニュージーランドに行っていました。学生を８人も連れて。日本の大学は２、３月が休みなので、その間海外に行く学生も多いですよね。私は、国際本部という部署と連携しながら学生に農業や英語を学んでもらうプロジェクトをやっています。それがニュージーランド・サマーキャンプです。行先はもちろん私の母校、リンカーン大学です。 リンカーンには毎年のように行っているので、向こうの先生たちも、また来たか、という感じでいろいろと手伝ってもらえるわけです。こういう関係はとても貴重です。リンカーン大学は、小さな大学ですが、私の大学よりももっともっと現場主義です。大学に付属の農場があり、その生産効率は国でトップクラスです。つまり研究をやるだけではダメで、農家の模範になる農法を示すことが出来なければ、ニュージーランドでは農業大学ではないのです。そういうことを見て感じて、本学の学生がもっともっと育ってくれればいいという私の願いです。

もちろん英語の勉強も結構がんばってやっていました。英語学校の先生たちは、短期間ですが、一生懸命文法やプレゼンのやり方などを指導してくれました。

いつ行っても、すばらしい太陽と空気でいやしてくれるのがニュージーランドです。もちろん私は長年住んでいたので、ひいき目にこの国を見ているのでしょうが、それにしてもすばらしくリラックス出来た自分にとってもいい数週間でした。

March already. Time flies. I will continue updating this blog this year. In Feb, I have been in New Zealand with 8 of my students. Feb and Mar are holidays in Japanese Universities thus many students spend some time in overseas. This New Zealand summer camp has been organized by me and our international office, letting them study English and Agriculture. We were at Lincoln University, my home University, of course.

Since I left Lincoln, I have been re-visiting it almost every year, thus professors there helped me, quite smoothly, again. This kind of relationship is very precious for me. Lincoln University is a small University but it really focuses on 'real' farming research. The University has its own farms and their productivity is one of the tops in this country. Thus, they are role models for New Zealand farmers. This is how New Zealand agricultural Universities work, unlike Japan. I hope my students saw and understood this fact.

They also studied English and lecturers at the English school lecturers helped them a lot in terms of their grammars and presentation skills.

I always love beautiful sunshine and clean air in New Zealand. Well, I had been there long enough to be partial to New Zealand but I relaxed a lot, for a few weeks.
