農作物はどうなのか【Effects on agricultural crops】

ザンビアでは、農作物の調査もしました。現地には大型スーパーもありますが、道端で、小規模に野菜などを売っている店もたくさんあります。そういうところの作物が鉛に汚染されていないかを調べました。まずはそういったお店で買い物をします。本当は少し葉っぱをもらえたり、果物やトマトなども一つあればいいのですが、そうもいかないので、一山買ってしまいます。研究室に持って帰って、鉛濃度を調べます。調べ方はいろいろあるのですが、今回は、果物などの汁を絞って、その汁に溶けている鉛が無いか調査をしました。 結果としては、あまり汚染された食べ物は見つかりませんでした。野菜を売っている人たちに聞いたところ、野菜は他の町で採れているということだったので、それが原因かもしれません。でも家庭菜園レベルの農地はたくさん見えたので、そのような場所にもアプローチしていきたいところです。

We have investigated agricultural crops too, in Zambia. There are some big supermarkets but small shops can also be observed along many streets, selling vegetables. We have investigated the vegetables for lead. First we simply bought these products from them. Actually we only needed one leaf or one piece of fruit really but we all ended up buying heaps of vegetables. We took them back to our lab, squeezed these vegetables and measured their soluble lead.

In results, we did not find many contaminated food products. Based on interviews to people selling them, they got them from other cities. Well, we still observed many vegetable gardens (very small scale) so we need to approach these types of farms too.
