インドネシア学生会議【Indonesian Student Association Meeting】

インドネシアの学生さんが集まる会議で、講演をしてきました。実は、それほどインドネシアに関係のある仕事をしてはいないので、完璧にちょっと人選が、、、と思うのですが、まあお願いされたからにはベストを尽くすということで、今までやってきた仕事から、農業と環境に関する簡単な話をしてきました。いつも思うのですが、日本に来ている留学生は、まじめで立派な子が多く、とても感激します。 インドネシアは、他アジア諸国と同様、近年どんどん発展していますが、その一方で、環境という視点から見ると様々なひずみが生じています。例えば、森林はどんどん減ってきていますし、農地で利用される肥料の量もとてつもない勢いで増加しています。このままではいけないことは間違いありませんから、どの辺で、どういう風に自然と人間の暮らしを両方豊かにしていくのか、そのかじ取りが重要になってくるでしょう。日本で勉強して、母国で活躍してくれるであろう若い学生たちに期待です。

I talked at a Indonesian Student Association Meeting. To be honest, I have not done much research in Indonesia thus I was not sure whether I was the appropriate person to speak, however, I did my best, talking about agriculture and environment. I am always impressed by foreign students who are studying here in Japan. They are very talented students and keen on learning more. The recent development of Indonesia is impressive, just as other Asian countries but on the other hand, the balance within natural environment maybe or has already been changed. For example, the forest cover rapidly decreases over the last decades and the use of fertilizer has been increasing rapidly. The question is how can Indonesian people develop their land in sustainable manner. I am hoping that young audiences for my talk will do their best when they go back to their home land.
