ドイツへ出張【A visit to Germany】

海外出張が続きますが、ドイツへ行っていました。今回は、大学内で公募があった、海外のトップクラスの研究所や大学等と連携を深めるためのファンドを使って、ドイツの研究所を訪問してきました。

大学にとって、海外との連携は非常に大切です。でも、連携すると言っても実際に何をどう連携するのか、そうすることによってどう双方にメリットが生まれるのか、ということを考えたり実行したりすることはとても大変です。

私のイメージですが、ヨーロッパの大学・研究所はとても効率よく他の大学・研究所と連携しているようです。そのためのノウハウも蓄積されていると感じました。

また、学生の英語力も非常に高いため、学生をどこに連れて行っても大丈夫ですし、研究のレベルも高いです。研究所の仕組みも非常に効率よく作られていて、いろいろとうらやましい限りです。

今回は、ベルリンではZALFという研究所に、ミュンヘンでは、Environmental Health(環境健康)研究所というところを訪問してきました。ZALFでは、土地の利用法などに関する研究について、Environmental Health研究所では微生物研究について、情報交換してきました。同時に、学生交流の可能性について、議論をすることができ、たくさんの収穫がありました。

それから、私の最初の学生と言ってもいいかもしれません、つくば時代に、一緒に実験をしたIsabellさんが、もう少しでPhD(博士)が取れそうな忙しい中、私をいろいろなところへ案内してくれたことに感謝したいと思います。

Oversea trips continue and I have been to Germany this time. I visited a couple of research institutes, using a fund coming from my University to promote collaborations with oversea research institutes.

For Japanese Universities, collaborations with overseas are very important but it is very hard to discuss and determine how we collaborate, making sure there are mutual benefits.

In my image, European research institutes are collaborating with other institutes, in very efficient ways. They gave me a lot of ideas for more collaborations. Also, administration systems in these institutes are very efficient and I am jealous on all of these.

English levels of the students there are high thus students can be exchanged very effectively as well.

This time, I visited an institute called ZALF in Germany, and The Research Institute for Environmental Health in Munich. At ZALF, we discussed on the effective land use and at The Research Institute for Environmental Health, we discussed on microbiology.

I also caught up with Isabell, who I supervised during her masters degree. She was almost finishing her Ph.D. when I visited her and I sincerely thank her for showing me around Germany.
