4月は忙しい【Busy April】

いろいろ忙しくてもう４月も後半となってしまいました。去年度は５名の卒業生を出すことが出来ました。教え残したことも沢山あります。でもきっとそれぞれの分野で活躍できると思います。心から応援しています。３月末～４月頭にかけてはいろいろと忙しかったので、なんだかあっという間に過ぎてしまいましたが、こうやって物を書きながら思い返してみると急にちょっと懐かしく思ったりします。

４月からは、いろいろと新しいプロジェクトが始まりました。荒廃地の回復に関するもの、自然栽培に関係したもの、それから家畜の糞尿関係、今までもやってきているテーマに近いですが、具体的に動き出した年となりました。そして道外から、国外から、どんどん学生が入ってきて、チームもにぎやかになりました。彼らが成長していくのを見るのが本当に楽しみです。

そして当たり前ですが、また今年もどっと新入生が私の学科に入ってきて、授業も忙しいです。大学２年生から学部を決めるという制度がある大学ですので、農学部になって、専門的なことにたくさん触れて、成長していって欲しいです。どうやら私の学科に入るのはなかなか競争が激しいらしく、かなりの競争を勝ち抜いてきたようです。これからはでも成績ではなく、もっと違った意味で人は「評価」されていきます。それは自分自身の評価でもあるし、他から見てもそうですよね。そういう成長を目指してほしい。

I have been so busy and cannot believe it is already the end of April. In the last fiscal year, five students graduated from the team. I feel like there were a lot of things I failed to teach but I really wish their best for their future. A Japanese fiscal year ends at the end of March so my schedule has been very tight so far. Writing something like this suddenly brings back a lot of good memories with them. I do miss them.

Many new projects have now started. One related to the recovery of degraded soil, another about natural farming and the other is related to the use of animal excreta. We have been researching these topics for a few years but now the projects are actually starting more seriously. We welcomed new students from other parts of Japan as well as from overseas. I am looking forward to seeing they learn a lot of new things.

Also, my lecture schedule is tight too since new students started in our department. Students in our University determine their departments when they enrol the second year. Thus, they suddenly start learning about "agriculture". I hope they will like the topic and will continue learning. I heard there is a huge competition to get into the department which I belong to. Thus, they are good students indeed. However, I want to note that a person's reputation or achievement is not really related to their ability to get good marks. When a person becomes adult, others see his/her value in different ways. It is important that each student will realise this as she/he ages in University...
